Cats scratching your Upholstery

Do you have an upholstered couch that you seem to have claw marks all over it? It stops you wanting to reupholster it because you're worried it's just going to happen again.

Well here's some tips and trick that might go some way in saving your couch from your furry friend.

Soft Paws looks like nail polish.
Soft Paws
I just recently read about this product that you can apply to cats nails called Soft Paws, which isn't supposed to be annoying for you cat and makes it look like they have nail polish on. I have no experience with this, so would be interested to hear if you've had any success with it.

Sticky Paws
Another option is "Sticky Paws", which you put on your couch and then after awhile your cat learns not to scratch and you can then take them off again.

Rather than investing in a specific product you can try double-sided tape, but you might want to test this to make sure it doesn't ruin your furniture.

Squirt Gun
The tried and true squirt gun, make the association between scratching and getting wet. If you are consistent and catch them often enough they should curb their ways.

Sisal Rug
Cats seem to love the texture of a sisal rug, if you can train them to scratch that instead of the couch you may be on to a winner. Just make sure you don't have other sisal rugs around the house that you don't want scratched, because if its good for one rug, it will be good for all of them!

Buy Leather or Microsuede
Most cats don't like the leather or microsuede for scratching, which might be a win/win for everyone. But you might find that your Moggy will find some other place to call her favourite scratching spot.

Scratching Post

Find the right scratching post and rub cat nip on it regularly to keep your cat interested in it. Hopefully they will leave your upholstery alone.

Have you tried any of these methods? Or do you have something that works even better? Let us know, I'm sure there are many people who would love your input.
