What to put in your Cushions

We have talked about the shape of the cushions on your furniture before but what about the inside of them?

When it comes to furniture just like any building, it's the parts that you don't see that are the most important. You need a solid foundation for a solid house. Even the Three Little Pigs figured out it's quality that stands the test of time (and wolves).

With furniture, the most important part is the frame and how solid it is. If a couch is wobbly, squeaks, or springs are poking you in the backside, no matter how good it looks, you won't want to sit down. So if the frame is the most important what comes next? The cushions - if you are talking about a couch, banquet seating or chairs.

Before we can decide about which filling is going to work best for the piece(s), we need to determine what you are going to be using it for. If you are using the furniture in a busy restaurant, you will want something that is going to withstand quite a few derrieres. As opposed to an occasional chair.

The options you have:
Poly/Down mix in different ratios. The Poly Foam provides the support where the down gives you comfortable cosy feel. So having a 25/75 ratio is heavy on the comfort, less so on the support.
Foam and Dacron. The foam is wrapped with a Dacron batting, similar to what quilters would use in their quilts. This is probably the most common couch cushion combination. The foam comes in different densities and thicknesses. So if you want something that will withstand lots of abuse, something that is quite dense (but not as comfortable) is the way to go.

Now keep in mind that not all foam is created equal, there is better quality than others , so depending on what you choose you can create a great looking couch but it won't stand the test of time. Remember the Three Little Pigs, learned that the hard way. If you want some help with deciding what filling to put in your cushions, feel free to give us a call 0800 698  746.
