Choosing an Upholsterer

You've decided you need some upholstery work done for you business. You know it will make a great impression on your clients, but where do you find a reputable, reliable and quality upholsterer? Once you've found one, then what do you need do?

The easy option is to call us 0800 698 746 and we will make it happen no problem, but if you are more hands on than that, here are few things to consider.

ASK AROUND
First of you need some names and recommendations. You wouldn't let just anyone pack your parachute, so make sure you don't just let 'anyone impact your business. I know we're talking about furniture, but it can be the critical first impression for your clients

To find these recommendations, ask other businesses who have recently had work done as well as friends, and colleagues. Make sure you get names of appropriate upholsterers. If you need banquet seating reupholstered, you don't want the name of someone who specialises in antique restoration!

ASK QUESTIONS
Now that you have a few names, it's time to ask questions.  Make sure you know what's important to you, have a list of questions with you, that is vital (no doubt they will include questions relating to Speed, Quality and Price)

Have a look at their workshops or showrooms, does it look clean and have an organised feel? If so, then you know your job won't be put at the back of the workshop to gather dust and excuses why it hasn't been finished.
Now get some names of people they have worked for and call them and see how happy they were with their service.

Do they have the Master Furniture seal?

LAY OUT YOUR EXPECTATIONS
Make sure you are very clear about when you would like the project finished. But also keep in mind the upholsters workload. Find out when their peak season is, if you want your project completed during this time, then you may have to prepare yourself for it to take longer than you had hoped. (Therefore, plan ahead!)

Don't take anything for granted, if you want something specific then you need to spell it out for them. If you don't lay out specifically what you want, then they will go ahead and do things in the 'usual manner', which may not be what you want. So be clear.

Does the work order lay out all of those expectations - including price Only sign it when you are happy.

Is the work order specific? If it says "The price includes everything" what does that really include? Does it include pick up and delivery fees, new foam; a suitably durable fabric for your business? Does it include Cut and Sew, labour to dismantle and re-install? Get specifics where possible!

Once you have all that out of the way, then you and your upholsterer will both start working in confidence that everyone will be happy when the job is done.

So now that you know how much work it can be to find a good upholsterer, doesn't working with us sound a little bit more appealing? Call us on 0800 698 746 or email us at action@upholsteryfitouts.co.nz

Do you have any other tips and tricks to add?
